Hi Kristen!
Thank you for the huge compliment! Congrats on starting a blog yourself and I’ve checked it out and thinks it’s a wonderful idea! I have no clue how to pair a good wine with a dish so you will be helpful. We use wordpress but hired a web designer (Rhino Web in Irvine, CA) to design our blog so it’s not the same look as another wordpress design template but I still get the benefits of it being a user friendly template through wordpress. That’s the way I did it and I’m happy with it so far! With advertising, it’s difficult to judge pricing because there isn’t a “set” format to calculate your pricing but it does depend on how many impressions/clicks you receive a month. I recommend looking into advertising on other food blog websites to compare pricing. After you have a ballpark range, if you google “cost of advertising on blogs” there are calculations you can use so you can make the best decision for your pricing. Be patient in the first few months because advertisers will first want to verify you have good content (which you will) and see that your clicks per months are increasing before they consider advertising. I hope this helps! Keeps us posted on your blog. I would love to see it!
Hey Heather,
I love the website you girls have created! So inspired by the idea of creating your own business. In the last three years, my passion for cooking has been growing. I got into the wine business to learn more and have knowledge on pairing dishes and such. Anyhow, I’ve been blogging randomly for a year or so and in the last few months have had the urge to take my blog to a new level. I was just curious who put your website together. I have heard that wordpress is great but realize there are many other web designers out there. Hopefully I will get to the level of having companies wanting to advertise… how did you come up with pricing? Any advice on how to jumpstart an active website? I’d like to eventually have recipes and wines archived in an organized way and offer personal chef/wine tasting services. Really impressed with what you’ve created, hope to hear from you soon. Any feeback I’d love to hear.
Thanks!
Kristen Muir
